State Route 28 Lane Closures Starting this August

Weekday lane closures on state Route 28 south of Incline Village will begin August 15 as Nevada Department of Transportation starts working on a multiple-year project to build a shared use path and make other roadway safety and water quality improvements.

Through fall, drivers should anticipate periodic construction-related lane closures on state Route 28 in the Ponderosa Ranch and Tunnel Creek areas south of Incline Village.

Lane closures will take place intermittently during day and nighttime hours to allow for construction equipment to be staged and construction to begin on new roadside parking areas and undercrossing. One-way traffic with traffic flaggers and pilot cars will be in place to safely guide motorists through the road work zone in both directions, with minor travel delays to be expected.

Additional construction-related lane and road closures will take place over the next two summers as construction of the pathway continues through 2018.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, Nevada Department of Transportation, and other project partners will ceremonially break ground on the roadway improvements August 19.

The project will build a three-mile shared-use path from the south end of Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park. Center line rumble strips and emergency roadside turnouts will be added to state Route 28 to further enhance motorist and pedestrian safety. Water quality improvements such as enhanced roadside drainage inlets, sediment filtration systems, and erosion controls will also be installed to help improve the quality of stormwater entering Lake Tahoe.
