This follows a more than 20-year stalemate over new development rules in Lake Tahoe's shorezone. The new ordinances are currently scheduled to take effect on December 22, 2008. Application processing is scheduled to begin January 5, 2009. Stay posted to this page of our website for updated information and timelines.

Current Status of New Shorezone Ordinances December 30, 2008

Updated shorezone permit application packets are available for bringing existing buoys into conformance with the new ordinances and TRPA staff is scheduled to begin processing applications January 5, 2009. The main focus of the new ordinances is to improve existing development and scenic resources before any new development is permitted. Preliminary pier applications for the five allocations being competed for in 2009 are scheduled to be accepted January 31. The competitive criteria is based on the level of environmental and scenic improvements proposed in each pier application.

The new application packets are on the (Shorezone Permits and Documents) page of the TRPA website and at TRPA offices.
