UPPER TRUCKEE RIVER RESTORATION AND GOLF COURSE RECONFIGURATION PROJECT
EIS/EIR
California State Parks (State Parks) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) are pursuing a restoration project along the reach of the Upper Truckee
River that extends from its upstream entry point at the southern boundary of Washoe Meadows State Park to just west of U.S. Highway 50 where the river exits Lake Valley State Recreation Area. The project is being planned and proposed by State Parks. TRPA has requested that an Environmental Impact Report/Statement (EIR/EIS) be completed by a third party firm. TRPA is managing the EIS process and helping gather public input as the process moves along.

Public planning workshops were held February 8 and 9, 2007 to present the project in further detail to interested stakeholders and to gather input on the recreation uses in the parks. Stay tuned to this page for a summary of the workshops and for more opportunities to provide input.
The primary purpose of the project is to restore natural geomorphic and ecological processes along this reach of river and to reduce the river’s suspended sediment discharge to Lake Tahoe. The proposed restoration project would require reconfiguration of the Lake Tahoe Golf Course to allow for restoration of the river, reduce the area of stream environment zone occupied by the golf course, and allow for establishment of a buffer area between the golf course and the river. Alternatives to the proposed project will be considered and studied in the EIR/EIS.
To determine the scope and content of the information to be included and analyzed in the EIR/EIS, a Notice of Preparation (NOP) was posted in public places and newspapers asking for input. The NOP/Scoping period was set to end Oct. 6, 2006, but was extended to October 20 to ensure the community had more than enough time. The comments collected are being used to help guide the study. Once complete, the EIR/EIS will be circulated for public comment for 60 days, after which TRPA will provide responses to the comments. All comments and responses will be included in the Final EIR/EIS when it is sent to the TRPA Governing Board for certification. We cannot say exactly when the next steps will happen, but will keep the community informed as the process moves along.
A more detailed description of the proposed project is contained in the following documents.
